Seth turns a year older on June 3rd. Every year at the same time, Denton, Texas has a dog singing contest. Last year I wanted to enter Sassie, but had to give in to the powers that be. This year was different. Seth's birthday party was moved up one day, so his mother could get off work. So Sassie Rae-Joplin was heading for the 14th Dog Days Celebration in Denton, Texas. Sassie was great in the car, but, ... we could not find The Days Inn. I had pre-registered over the phone.
We drove around over the highways and byways for about an hour and a half. The reason we missed it, was that the sign was below the Interstate and could not be seen by the driver. When we did get there, we were stunned. A "No Pets Allowed" sign was up, so what could we do. The motel had already been payed for. We snuck her in, any way.

"Shhh!" I said, to all the kids sitting at front of the stage on the ground. "How many of you know "The Star Spangled Banner?" A few hands shot up as the kids stared at Sassie. "With any luck, we might get Sassie Rae-Joplin to sing the whole song, and, ... if she does, Sassie may be the first dog in the history of the flag to sing The Star Spangled Banner."
The kids sat there patiently as my microphoned emcee came over and leaned down by Sassie. I had told him that Sassie may start out "moaning and whining" before she actually started singing. Never know. From the first note to the last, Sassie sang all the way through. Listen to the people at the end of the song. Of course, ... as you can see, Sassie easily won "The Denton Dog Days Celebration's DOG SINGING AWARD." Pretty cool, huh. Listen to her again.
